As soon as I attempt to turn on the heater to 200 C I immediately get the following error.

Okay, update.
In my haste to stop the ear piercing crash alarm, I wasn't clearly seeing the error message on the LCD. So, I decided to try printing from pronterface with it's more reliable memory:

I found the heated bed defined in the firmware was set to 1. I don't remember doing that ... possible I did it without thinking. Anyways, it's working now.

So I had an issue where this would happen randomly. I somehow fixed it by doing a couple of things. First, make sure the thermister is in as far as it will go into the heater block. Ideally it should be making contact with the back of the hole. Also make sure you haven't squashed the wires coming out. All that screw is supposed to do is to keep it from moving around. You can check this by heating up the hotend and then moving the print head back and forth along the y-axis. Watch the reported temperature. See if it jumps wildly. You can also try lightly touching the wires around the thermal couple and the thermister to see if that causes the issue. Secondly, check that you're wiring is connected to the mainboard solidly. After I done the first thing I mentioned I was still getting the issue. I had the printer turned on its side and would move wires around and watch it do silly things. At one point I got it to read -14. I'm sure that temperature has never been recorded in FL except in a fast food restaurant's freezer! Anyhow, I traced it back to a loose connection to the pins. I had to soldier on about 10cm of wire to mine to get it to the board. They just were not making a good connection. I had this problem with my probe too. When everything is set I'll hit it with some hot glue or shoe goo to set them in place.
I'm getting this error as well. I've confirmed a 100k resistance by probing the thermistor connector with my multimeter. So it can't be faulty wiring, bad component or a short to the heater block. I also ensured it is connected to the "hotend 1 themistor" connector of the board. Both the LCD and pronterface display a temperature reading (which I assume is accurate enough such that the pla can be extruded when the reading reaches 200*C).
Got any other ideas?
Check your thermistor cables are not shorting on the heater block, remove and re-insert, do not tighten the bolt too firmly.
I think figures it out. I got one of the sets with the 1m thermostat cables so I splices In some additional cable. I re examined the thermostat cable and then re-soldered one of my connections. That fixed the issue.
