Mine didn't come out exactly as it was drawn but it's still functional

Mine came out the same exact way!

@Michael G try this, it's the standard duct from Makertech. https://github.com/Makertech3D/AXIS/blob/4ed3135e8a1d62f9ddbdb341d7e461e503730520/Axis%203D%20Printed%20Parts/AXIS%2040mm%20Fan%20Shroud.STL

I have to say though, even with a duct there's very little airflow, I'm wondering if it's worth swapping the base fan with the filament fan - the current LOUD base fan would only be on a few times while printing rather than sounding like an effing vacuum cleaner.

@Gareth Owen if there was something I could get your help designing it would be this: belt tensioners.

I'm having trouble keeping my x-axis belt tensioned. I'm not able to come up with something.

today i have thrown caution to the wind and am now printing @Gareth Owen Z Axis guide. Its sying its a 8.5 /9 hour print. im an hour in currently and only 3% has been completed. Im hoping it completes iv only printed up to 3 hours currently.

I will of course let you know how it ends up!

Good luck!

It was going perfectly, until the X-axis jammed 2 hours in and the layer then slid by 5 mm.

I guess i need to try and print some new X guides to try and stop this. im thinking ones similar to the design you did for the Z axis guides.

You could edit the 'XZ Integrated' to remove the Z steady, this would give you the adjustable X.

The problem I found was that the bed edges weren't true which I'm looking into solving with springs.

I've modified the gantry guides so that they're as long as possible without fouling.

I'll upload them tomorrow.

Updated Z guides now published.

These are as long as will physically fit for maximum stability.

I've deleted the previous version.

What material did you use for printing? I think the original guides are ABS or nylon and I'm a bit worried if I would print these with just PLA.

Dude. You seriously got it going on! How much have your prints improved?

I'm not making any attempt at printing with the Axis until my rigid coupler arrives - I'm still trying to find a viable solution for the lag at the open end of the gantry. These Z guides have helped but without another driven Z lead screw to replace my Z steady or a stabilizing rod/balance weight, I don't hold much hope.

Seeing the successful prints that others have made is the only thing that gives me the resolve to get this printer sorted!

I only use PETG - PLA is for indoor decorations.

Try them, they're not going to overheat and should take a long time to wear noticeably.

I'm still not happy with the Z gantry guides. As these are crucial for lead screw alignment, I'll get the Vernier out.

Well. I'm sure this isn't helping...

A straight edge placed at the bottom of the Z upright shows it's slightly bowed.

those new Z guides are looking really good!

I caved and bought 2 linear rails. like @Michael G one to replace the X axis guides and the other to replace the Z. i havent actually tried to print anything until they turn up. im hoping they will turn up today.

The new Z guides just highlighted that the Z rail is a banana!

@Gareth Owen I actually checked my one after seeing the picture you took and mine is the same. im hoping the extra linear rail will add some stiffness and correct it.

I've tried attaching 10mm aluminum H section to it and the H just bends. 1" angle iron is next.

As I said, the bed is banana'd

1" angle iron *snert*
