cant get first print to...print

I took the "stay in place" order to finally put my Proforge 2S together. About damn time right? So everything is assembled and looks good, the printer heats and extrudes and moves fine, but I simply cannot get anything to print. What I get most of the time is the first layer of filament being extruded and then clumping all under the nozzle. Then it just drags a clump around making a mess. THe other senerio I get is a really thin print border that then clumps when it tries to print the infill.

I have modified the z offset thinking I was too high, or too low.

I tried a new nozzle. I'm using the sample material supplied and the proforge 2s material settings for PLA.

I decided to just build with the single extruder for now

Any thoughts?

Here is my best Benchy. Most didn't get this far.

What are you using on the bed - hairspray? Glue stick?

I wasn't using anything. Not sure why I didn't immediately try that. Oh brain...

I never used any adhesive on my printer.

However I had many issues in the past.

About 2 weeks ago I tuned my 3D printer using this article (https://m.all3dp.com/2/how-to-calibrate-a-3d-printer-simply-explained/) and mainly my extruder motor was too high by 12%.

Another change I made is using a .4mm head instead of the default .3mm. My prints are now perfect (apart from a minor bit of ghosting).

Adhesion in my experience is quite good with the print bed without using glue or other stuff but is impacted by z-height, print temperature and speed. Printing the first layers at half or even 1/3 speed makes a big difference

Thanks Peter, I'll have to give it another shot when I get a few minutes. Glad to know its possible to have some fairly decent prints.

@borhaaa I thing "fairly decent" is an understatement with what I got now...

I was doing some work in the house last weekend and wanted to keep the place clean when drilling holes in the wall so I found this (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4239139) on Thingiverse.

These are pictures of the printed result (.4mm head, .2mm layer height, 3.5hour print)
