Any news on Linear Rail Upgrades?

in General Discussion

As mentioned in the March 22, 2021 Kickstarter Update... any news when the kit will be available? I guess I could just follow the STL files, but wouldn't mind the having the kit direct from Makertech3D.

I am going to try a drop-in ball bearing to see if that helps my z-banding any. Wish I could get back to the perfect NO z-banding like I had there for a little while. Our printer collection has expanded quite a bit since last year when with the Axis and Prusa only. Have a Prusa Mini up and running. JG Maker IDEX and a Weedo X40 IDEX also up and running. In process of building a Rat Rig v-Core 3 500mm Core-XY, and as soon as that is done, have a SecKit Tank in the box to build (checked the Linear Rails as request, but otherwise still sealed up) Working on the Linear Rails right now for the RR500 which is what reminded me of the Axis Linear Rail upgrade. I'll post some pictures of our new farm setup - we're totally addicted.

Hi Jay,

That;s quite the collection you've got there!

We have all of the components for the upgrade ready, they just need assembling with the possibility of some adjustment to the printed parts.

We're hoping to get an update out in August as the current priority is to get parts ordered from suppliers for the Proforge 3 kickstarter.

Regards,

Adeel

Thank you, Adeel. Could you update the github guide with the parts list/sizes? I'm sure I could open the CAD and review from there, but if you have this that'd be a lot easier to just order things from AliExpress.

For these:

x2 MGN7-H with two carriages each for the platform (x-axis)
x1 MGN9-H for the Hotend (y-axis)
x1 MGN15-H for the Gantry (z-axis)

Is that 350mm or 400mm for the 2xMGN7-H with two carriages each?

250mm or 300mm for the MGN9-H?

250mm I assume for the MGN15-H?

Recommended bolt sizes? Cap Head I assume, but what size/length? Going to drill/use every hole? Every other? 3 or 4 total? For the nut (washer?) perspective, just going to use a locking nut or lock washers or something?

A new GT2 belt is mentioned, that just because the first belts tend to start slacking over time? Or since the base plate will be off, might be a good time to replace?

And whatever else I'm missing. Printing the parts in PET-G is the "easy" part. I'm mostly worried about the hole drilling as pointed out. But I'm thinking of how to create taped down templates or tape here and punches to get the right hole placement.

Thanks again for the attention! It was the first printer my son and I built, and while I'm glad we got it mostly working, doing some improvements sounds nice too.

I just ordered…

1xMGN15H - 250mm

1xMGN15H - 300mm

1xMGN9H - 250mm

1xMGB9H - 300mm

2xMGN7H - 350mm

2xMGN7H - 400mm

Couple of extra carriages for each of them as well.

I figure I can use whichever ones I don’t use on something else eventually.

I also got some different style of the red square plastic/metal couplers to try, and have some ball bearings to try in the coupler too.

Great!

Sorry we couldn't get it out sooner, we're estimating January 2022 for dispatch, but we may see them go out much sooner than that!

New CURA will also have an updated profile for the AXIS and updated Marlin firmware! To be released around dispatch.

Upgrade info:

We've just released a linear rail upgrade for the Axis 3d printer. We highly recommend this for quickly improving the print quality and speed of the printer.
