Best way to print with PETG filament on flexplate ?

in General Discussion

Hi everyone. After destroying my flexplate trying to remove a PETG print, any advice on how to print and remove the printed object after without ruining the bed ?

I ordered new ones but wouldn't want to use them for one print only, not telling you how much time it took me to remove the bed cover from the printed part.

Wil glue ease the remove ? Maybe removing while bed still hot ?

Any advice would be appreciated

Not sure the sticker is made for PETG printing.

Lowering the heated temperature to 65°C and upping the Z of 0.1 helped not destroying the sticker and allows removing the PETG part. But this leaves a trace on the sticker : like a bubble that has the shape of the first layer. So in the end not suitable for direct print.

I tried even lower bead temperature but the piece didn't stick and came out after few printed layers.

Si I guess you lust use a separation layer between the sticker and the printed object so it doesn't harm the sticker : but not very nice cleaning it after. Not tried yet as removing the glue on the sticker isn't something I am looking for.

PETg needs more separation than PLA, doesn’t like to be squished on first layer. Increase the Z a bit. I also destroyed my purchased build sheets even doing this with a PETg, now I use BuildTak sheets and filam bed adhesion is good and the object comes off without distruction.

Indeed, that's what I discovered the hard way like you. Thanks for the advice, I'll try to find BuildTak of 200x300mm.

I changed the plate for a new sticker and it was really a nightmare to remove and clean. I had to use a all lot of acetone and its just a mess to remove the sticker glue.

If only we had searched for this before destroying our flexplates. :( Oh well.

The sticker doesn't look removed yet. You can try to heat the remaining part and remove it with a spatula, being careful. Good luck

Not really fan of this material, much prefer PEI sheet but this printer doesn't offer this choice and you can't get just bare metal plate.

When you say you can't get... before the sticker is applied, it's a bare metal sheet though? Would that work?

Anyway, I ruined another one sticker still on that one. I'll use a heat gun and see if I can get it off. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, it was a bare metal sheet before applying the sticker the first time... when I didn't know what would happen ;-)

I ordered a new one but the sticker was already there and the bare metal part was not available anymore. The only part I could order was just the stickers.

I’ve been using blue painters tape on the metal without the sticker with glue stick. Works great for me
