Board and drivers replacement

My board shorted out when the heat sink touched the pins, I am looking at replacements for the board and the drivers. I was wondering if the TMC2100 could be replaced with the TMC2208. There is a newer board MKS-Gen V1.4 and was interested if replacement would be ok.

I forgot to mention that I am going to hot glue over the pins on the drivers so if the heat sink shifts toward the pins the hot glue will act as a stop, I am hoping the drivers don't get hotter that hot glue melting point

The Gen1.4 board will likely be compatible in terms of controlling everything on the printer, but it does look to be a little wider and so likely won't fit onto the mounts with out some modification. TMC2208 should work fine, take a look a look at TMC2130's also as these can be configured to work without the endstops. Instructions for installation from online tutorials that maybe don't use the MKS board will very likely still apply, you will just have to be more careful with locating the correct pins.

Do you have any idea what the resister trim pot need to be set for the 2208 driver?

@hilkek For the TMC2100 drivers vref values should be as follows:

For the X axis (platform) you can set it between 0.95-1.05v and for the Y-axis (hotend) you can get away with less, between 0.6-0.7v. If your Y-axis is struggling, check you don't have any resistance on the axis when powered off and moving it by hand.

It should be the same for the 2208 and 2130 drivers also.

@hilkek Replacing the red boards may prove a little unnecessary as the tmc drivers help reduce noise which will come mostly from the X/Y axes when printing.

I am not 100% with you on this. Using z-hop and/or dual extruder will use the z steppers while printing a layer, not only in between so the TMC2100 will also be nice for the z-axis.
