Trouble first layer Z height on Y axis even with autolevel

in General Discussion

Hi,

Finally, after 2 weeks building it (this is my first 3D printer), I can print ! I had to solve few problems but now it kind of works. But I still have a strange trouble and no clue on how to solve it.

When starting a print, the printer auto level then starts the first layer. On the center position, the Z height is correct but on the front side on the Y axis (towards the screen), nozzle is too high so hardly sticks to the bed while on the rear side of the Y axis, nozzle is too low so I nearly have no filament on the bed.

This trouble is only on the Y axis. The X axis keeps the same Z nozzle height.

As the printer auto level, I don't understand why this happens. I see no way to solve this problem. As there are 2 step motors for the Z, I tried to manually lower the front one to compensate before power on but it changes nothing. It's like the auto level is making a mistake.

I have the dual extruder Proforge 2S and the upgraded heated bed and flex plate.

This would be nice to find help on this one.

Best regards, Yodine

i had all that and never could get it to work so i chalked it up as a expensive lesson and bought he easy to put together

Sorry you couldn't make it with this one. It sure is complexe to build and calibrate but I still think this can be a very good printer. I succeeded in solving nearly all issues with single hotend, only stuck with this trouble.

Just hope there are still people behind it so I can get help.

Even if you are using the auto leveling, you have to do manual bed leveling.

I had same problem and I found out the Y Motion frame is not horizontally equal.

Because of motor and frame weight, the left side is lower than right side.

Check the frame first, then tight up springs on the platform, home all, then do Stage 10, step 27 on build guide. You should make same Z value each side of platform and center.

CHECK Y MOTION FRAME~~

Many thanks for your advice. Didn't know the y axis must be flat as I thought the auto level would take care of it. I'll check all what you said and will tell you how it came.

For now for sure the y axis isn't flat.

Well, not what I expected. It seems the Y is now flat but can't change it further as any lowering of the front Z motor will lower the rear.

Also for me I can't change from the bed as the enhanced aluminium heated bed doesn't have any spring (as the initial bed), it is directly screwed on the structure. Did I miss something here ?

So I am still left with a subtle Y height difference from front to rear : better than before but still miss a layer or so from end to end. The rear part (from the screen) has no first layer.

Finally got it right. After checking everything, I came to change the spring coupling part. As I have the dual extruder, it makes a lot of weight on them so on one side it was totally compressed when the head was on that side.

My guess is that when moving the Z axis, the compression of the coupler would change the Z height.

As seen on YouTube, I put a 1/4" roller ball between the stepper motor and the lead screw so that they are in contact and the spring coupler can still do its job compensating, but not Z axis.

Now the first layer is correct on all surface ;-)

Hope this can help others in may situation
