If your components and cables were like my kit here's what I suggest:
Make sure you're connecting the EXP1 on the mainboard to EXP1 on the LCD and the same with EXP2. This is where I initially tripped up.
If that doesn't solve it, and it likely will not, you'll need to cut the index tab one the connection used for the EXP1 connection. I did this on the LCD side. The plug can then be inserted in 180 degrees to its "normal" orientation. This would put the removed index side of the plug on the cable away from the cut groove for the index on the LCD plug.
I ended up buying new cables on Amazon. They were also reversed, but actually functioning unlike the ones I received with this kit.
